Thalía's makeup for the cover of CosmopolitanSource:
Cosmopolitan, July 2002 The summer beauty tips continue inside the latest issue of Cosmopolitan, which has Thalía on the cover. This time, they feature cosmetic lines that are easily obtainable and not so expensive that all of us can't try for the same effect. For Thalía's look you may use the following Clinique products which are displayed from top to bottom in the picture. First apply the Gentle Light Pressed Powder which matches your skin tone. This will give you a finish which is diaphanous, luminous, and very natural. For radiant cheeks, apply the Rich Texture Blush in Rich Nude color. On the eyes, apply the High Impact eye shadow in Timeless Teal, a blue-green tone which is sensual and discrete at the same time. Color your lips with Last Soft Shine lipstick in Pink Spice. And if you want to look really sexy, Thalía says: No matter what happens, I always try to have a smile on my lips. Among other beauty aids that Thalía says she uses are all the Keratase line (yellow label) of hair products by L'Oreal, Flash Tinted Self-Tanning Moisturizing Mousse by Lancôme; Green Tea Body Lotion by Elizabeth Arden; Vérité by Estée Lauder; Skin Caviar by La Prairie; and Chap Stick. |
Of course, one "accessory" not mentioned for Thalías cover photo is that totally indispensable professional makeup artist from a famous salon, who is the one actually applying all of these great effects.

In a huge boost for Thalia's move toward gaining more fans in the United States, the Queen of Latin Music and Telenovelas popped up on one of the most influential entertainment shows in the Anglo-American market in the United States, just a day prior to the nation celebrating it's 226th birthday.
This appearance follows the Rosie O'Donnell Show that Thalia recently appeared on. Nancy O'Dell introduced Thalia as the "Latin Chart Topper" and said, "If you haven't heard of her yet, you soon will!".
"Thalia has
been topping the charts for over ten years in her native Mexico
and around the world, and her self-titled album has been topping
the Latin Billboard Charts for weeks. Her album includes
three English tracks and Thalia is in the works on a new English
album to be out soon", she said. O'Dell then pointed out
that Thalia was married to Tommy Mottola, and thus "she
can't go wrong."
When asked about entering the new English market by O'Dell, Thalia responded, "I think it's going to be interesting to see the two sides come together. The English side and the Spanish side."
The appearance included some nice, but very short clips of what looked a photo shoot and her video, as well as Thalia and Tommy together.
Thalia appeared during the interview poised, confident, and comfortable as always. Although a rather short appearance, it was close to the top of the show and some good exposure for Thalia in the right direction before her English album even hits the airwaves. This will surely allow Thalia to come back on the show for longer segment with an update when her new album comes out. It could even allow Thalia to be at the top of the headlines of the show in the future.
Summer makeup secrets from ThaliaSource:
Cristina Magazine, July 200 In their summer beauty section this month, Cristina magazine features the colors which Thalia is using right now to make herself look all golden and delicious for the cameras. The translation goes: A blush of bronze. If your face is already tanned and you want to look as sparkling as Thalía, apply Shimmer Cream (or illuminating cream) on your whole face. Then a bronzing blush along the length of your cheekbones. And if you wish, seal with a bronzing powder. |

With no place for doubts, Thalia is today
one of the greatest phenomena within the world of Latin
music. The singer is a whirlwind of chestnut hair,
perfect hips and angelical face, which since she began
her career was predestined to conquer the legions of fans
in Mexico, Europe, and Asia, besides converting herself
into one of the most powerful voices of Latin pop. Now, the Mexican whirlwind is back with a new album: Thalía, a production with 13 stupendous songs, of which 3 were recorded in English, which makes the musical evolution of the singer evident and with which Thalia demonstrates, once again, that for her limits do not exist when dealing with her professional growth. In this new album we find talents the size of Estefano, Emilio Estefan Jr., and Corey Rooney, who helped Thalía to produce excellent songs and especially to create a new sound that the singer was looking for. I have experimented with various types of rhythms in my last eight albums mambo, salsa, merengue, dance, house, cumbia , commented Thalía. What I wanted now is simply to relax and surround myself with a group of talented musicians who wanted to create new sounds, a new atmosphere. We wanted to create magic within this record! |
Thalía Ariadna Sodi, her full name, began in Mexican television and theater while barely a child. In those days the future star desired to follow the footsteps of her oldest sister. Thalía remembers it this way: I had to behave myself well in school so that on the weekend they would let me go to see Laura acting in the theater.
Her first approach to music was with the child group Din Din, and years later, as an adolescent, she joined the famous band Timbiriche, the pop phenomenon of the '80s
In those days, Thalía accepted a starring role in the telenovela "Quinceañera", the first Mexican telenovela intended for adolescents. The story caused a sensation and turned Thalía into one of the most popular actresses in Mexico. After "Quinceañera", other successes would follow. Nevertheless, the singer - who was still an adolescent - made the surprising decision to move to Los Angeles, and it was here where she met her collaborator and producer of many years, Alfredo Díaz Ordaz. (NOTE: This statement is not true. Alfredo met Thalia in Mexico City through the head of Televisa, Emilio Lizárraga Milmo, who told the song writer and producer that he was to make her a star). Thalía remembers: He was of the '70s and lived in the movement of that era - flower power, rock we made an impressive combination because I loved The Doors, Aerosmith, and Journey. I always have been a rocker in my heart.
Alfredo Díaz Ordaz produced her first record, Thalía (1989). The album raised controversy among the media and the public but also left it clear that Thalía was a completely different artist. This album was followed by Mundo de Cristal (1991) and Love (1992).
To the same degree, Thalía had great success as an actress in telenovelas: "María Mercedes", "Marimar", and "María la del Barrio" were great hits in Mexico and gave the singer international recognition. The first trilogy in the history of telenovelas, it was sold to 180 countries around the world and was translated into all of their dialects.
Also in the '90s, the singing career of Thalía exploded more than ever thanks to her collaboration with producer Emilio Estefan Jr., with whom she completed the albums En Éxtasis (1995), Amor a la Mexicana (1997), and Arrasando (2000). Emilio Estefan has been a good luck charm for me, declared Thalía. Since he gave me the first song, 'Piel Morena' my career as a singer took off like a shot. In this new album, Estefan again works with Thalía on the song La Loca, a surprising cumbia-rock in which the Panamanian group Los Rabanes participate.
Another stellar performance on the album Thalía is from Estefano, who wrote seven songs for the album. This talented composer has collaborated with Enrique Iglesias, Chayanne, and Alexandre Pires, among others. Estefano is behind the sexy rhythm of Tú y Yo, the first single which se desprendió del álbum. Tú y Yo was recorded in 5 versions (Note: In her chat of July 2, 2002, Thalia said there are 6 versions), the original, a remix with the participation of Tejano stars A.B. Quintanilla y los Kumbia Kings, a grupera version, a ballad version by Estefano, and the super-smash Tú y Yo version in English (Note: That's a very interesting claim since nobody has ever heard the supposed English version).
Corey Rooney, who has worked with Jennifer López, Marc Anthony, Destinys Child, and Michael Jackson, was in charge of adding the music to the Estafano song Heridas en el alma. In addition, Rooney collaborated on the provocative track The Mexican 2002, surprising Thalía herself when at the last minute he included the voice of Marc Anthony in the chorus.
In the album Thalía once more displays the exceptional skill of the singer to create unique emotional environments in ballads like Así es el Destino and No me Enseñaste. But without a doubt one of the irresistible charms in Thalía, is her capacity to project a duality between the innocent girl and the femme fatale.
Her daring and sexy side is manifested in En la Fiesta Mando Yo, and also in her version of the hit by Alaska y Dinarama, A Quién le Importa. Concerning this song, Thalía commented This song is a hymn to all those who triumph as I have. They receive the criticism of others for the simple fact of going outside of what is common and seeking to be different, Thalia added. I am very influenced by the 80s; In that era a fusion of sounds was made that went from pop to rock and what happened as a result was a new musical mixture which was extremely interesting.
The passion which Thalía has for the decade of the '80s led her to make the decision to record the classic by the English group Dead or Alive, You Spin Me Round (Like a Record). The trick is to enjoy yourself with the music declared Thalía, who has much confidence in her English interpretations. Several years ago I made a record of my songs in English and Tagalog for Southeast Asia, which gave me gold and platinum records. Besides, I also sang in English on the soundtrack of Anastasia, the first movie of animated drawings that 20th Century Fox made. (Note: If Thalia DID sing in English for this record it was not used in the CD released in the US; Aaliyah sang the English version and Thalia interpreted the Spanish version of the song Journey to the Past.) This is the third time that I sing in English and I feel totally secure in doing it, she added. Crossover is not a new word for me, I have gone on doing it for six years, leaving the flag of my music wherever I have stepped. This stage is only a complement to the work which I have been doing for years.
Listening to Thalias new album, it seems evident that the singer has given a breath of fresh air to the Latin pop scene. Thalía is thus turning herself into a nascent legend of todays music. Nevertheless, she has not lost sight of what she is because of this. But, who is Thalía? Is she the sensitive woman who searches for love as in the ballad Y Seguir?; or is she the daringly sensual woman who sings cumbia and rap in the track La Loca? According to what Thalía herself has said, she is a little of both things: I can be very sweet, very sympathetic, very loving but also I can be very aggressive, very strong, a woman who defines her space, from here to there you will not pass; I can be sweet and at the same time I can be very sexy. That is what I am, a constant search for life, strength, new emotions. I am honesty . and that is what I give with my music.

July 1, 2002
Once more we are celebrating another anniversary, this time we will toast to the 4th year that Thalia's World has existed on the web since its founding on July 1, 1998.
Although we are no longer amazed that we have survived another year but are rather taking it for granted, we still like to make the anniversary announcement and thank all our loyal friends for another year together.
Milestones and Aspirations
Two milestones in particular are worth noting this year. TW is now the longest surviving continuously-operating Thalia site, and also the most popular non-official site in any language. Early in June, our front-page visitor counter turned 500,000, and we fully intend to stay around to see it hit one million. The fact that we are an English language site also puts us in the unique position to help carry Thalia on her crossover - there will be many new fans who do not know anything about Thalia prior to her first all-English album, since Europe and Asia communicates more in that language than Spanish. Of course, Thalia's official site has more clout than we do, but they do not have the resources or interest to match us in the thing we do best --news!
Major Changes Immediately
Which brings us to a surprise we have been saving for this date, we are going to take down Thalia's World as you have come to know it, yes, essentially remove most of the sections and completely reformat so that from this date on we can concentrate on our specialty. TW will henceforth become even more unique because we intend to morph into the single most comprehensive coverage of Thalia since the day she was born until the latest article published this week by the newspapers and magazines of the world. When we bring all the loose ends together, we will have an encyclopedia of the life and career of Thalia, complete with search engines by date and key word. We will document her family members, boyfriends, pets, records, novelas, all the usual things, but in one continuous timeline. no more separate sections. We plan to translate and publish interviews she gave in every magazine we can find from her early career and show you the photos that went with them, we will give you clips and vid caps from the TV specials she did in the "Love" era, the Timbiriche Halloween special, photo shoots you never saw, all the collectors' items we have never gotten around to posting on the site.
"Latest News" and "Oldest News" together now
Well, now it will not matter if we get the news up in time, because we will just post it where it goes in the timeline :D Our new format will take some getting used to, but when the search engines are fully loaded it will be a breeze, so please bear with us. But you will no longer be able to go to the top entry in the Ankh Chronicles and see what the last story we posted was. It might have been something from a month ago which we just found, it might have been a 5-page interview from an Argentine magazine we just bought on Ebay. Maybe for a while we can leave notes on our discussion board to let you know when something significant is newly-posted.
To Share or To Dump?
Some of the material we have been working on no longer fits into our new concept, and some of it wasn't all that hot in the first place, but it is not going into the trash can. We will still maintain all the old pics and sections on disk, so that if anybody is looking for something that suddenly is not there anymore, do not despair. By popular demand, our English translations of Thalia's songs will now be posted on Raphael Fraga's Brazilian site. And of course, if you find something from your own country that you think is worth posting and you can get it translated to English, please feel free to send it.
We love you, Thalia!
This will probably be the most exciting, incredible, successful year that Thalia has ever seen. We can't wait to be there with her, and we know you feel the same. Thanks for taking this long trip with us, we believe the best is yet to come. See you next year!
The Prizes: First place entry receives both Thalia's FIRST album (Reissue 2001 - Fonovisa Edition) and her LATEST album, both titled Thalia. Second place entry or entries will receive their choice (only one) of the three Latina magazines which have had Thalia on the cover.

Thalía will be cloned into six beginning June 30, but only in the Federal District and in the north of Mexico.
After that date, different establishments who have the self-titled record by the artist on sale will have for distribution a different version which will contain all six versions of the song "Tú y Yo". In the first pressing of her new record which was released, all of the versions that were recorded of this melody were not included because the record label decided to take advantage of this work in a 2nd issuing of the record.
"Beginning July 1st, people who buy Thalía's new material will be given this record with six songs, which will be completely free", stated Martha Ruiz, from the Press Department of EMI Music, the singer's company.
The versions that were included in this CD are: the pop version which is being played right now, a cumbia remix with A.B. Quintanilla and The Kumbia Kings, a cumbia norteña, the ballad version, as well as two electronic versions of a different length, made by the group Nopal Beat. This will be presented as a "plus" for the Mexican public.
According to the SoundScan system of Billboard, which electronically calculates the sales to the public in the US market and Puerto Rico, the record Thalía lasted five weeks in first place of the Top Latin Albums.
According to information shared by her record label, Thalía has received this happy news while working in front of the cameras at locations in Manhattan, in the SoHo district of New York, where she filmed the key scenes of the video for her next single, entitled "No Me Enseñaste".
Due to its content, this short film allowed the wife of Tommy Mottola to sing and to represent every line, the same as she would do it in her facet as an actress. The director of the video was Antti J, the same one who directed the clip "Tú y Yo", her most recent single, while Joyce Washington was in charge of the productions.
Thalía returns to New York for her new VideoSource:
Univision.com and El Gordo y La Flaca, June 20. 2002 Once more in the Bronx for the filming of her new video, No Me Enseñaste, Mexican diva Thalía appeared very excited. And not for no reason, since her husband, Tommy Mottola, made her a "doctor's visit" in order to verify that everything was going forward as it should. Motivated by the great success of the video for Tú y Yo, Thalía decided to again work with the same director, Antti J., for the video of No Me Enseñaste, the second from her most recent record. Its a bolero whose interpretation caused profound emotion in the diva. In an interview with Univision, Thalía sang a stanza of the song a capella and said she was very content to have returned to use the city of New York for the setting. The video, which is said to have a budget of a half million dollars, was filmed in a single day in the Chinatown district and counted on a team of experts in special effects, which transformed a sunny day into a rainy day, conforming to the melancholy nature of the song. |

Thalias
husband, Tommy Mottola, appeared at the filming location
for a while in the afternoon. Surrounded by his
bodyguards, he was there less than 15 minutes and
departed without interrupting the shooting. Thalía declared that "New York has a great history in each block of this city", happy to be there again. She was also happy due to her return from a successful promotional tour through France and Spain. She will continue traveling in the following weeks. Besides that, the album which includes No Me Enseñaste and Tú y Yo, entitled simply Thalía, has now been in first place for four weeks on the Billboard list of Latin albums, meaning that it is the highest seller in the United States. On another subject, the diva confirmed what was said on the program Primer Impacto the day before, that her mother will continue having a voice in decisions concerning her artistic career, although she will no longer be her official representative. Thalía has contracted a new team for the work on her internationalization. |
