The Latin Billboard Awards were presented at the Miami Arena to honor the most popular albums, songs and performers of the Latin Music industry as determined by their sales and radio airplay data gathered by the BillBoard Weekly Charts. Tonight marks the first time the glittering awards night has been made open to the public.

Mexican star Thalia won the female pop album of the year for "Thalia" and the Telemundo Viewers Choice award. Thalia, who showed up in a flowing red dress, signed autographs for the adoring red carpet crowd, some of whom tossed flower petals at her.

Oscar nominees Salma Hayek and Andy Garcia follow close behind the 31-year-old Thalia in the magazine edition that hits newsstands on Monday, May 12.

"Our '25 Most Beautiful' represent the true value and spirit of being Hispanic," said Angelo Figueroa, who was the magazine's managing editor until May 1 and helped compile the list.

The list includes New York Yankees' Bernie Williams, magician David Blaine, Miss USA Susie Castillo, actors Adam Rodriguez, Cesar Evora, Diego Luna, Gabriel Soto, Reynaldo and Yancy Arias, actresses Ana Claudia Talancon, Eva Longoria and Gina Torres, singers Adolfo Angel, Jennifer Pena, Juanes, Mille Cortejer, Pablo Montero and Patricia Manterola and television personalities Carmen Dominicci, Charytin and Marian de la Fuente.

Thalia's English Single Has Early Launch in New York

Source: Mundo de Cristal NYC, April 25, 2003
TW reporters: Lorena & Nelson

Radio stations around the USA received their promotional copies of Thalia's first English single by Thursday, but today New York station KTU 103.5 jumped the gun and debuted "I Want You". The slow, urban hip-hop collaboration with Fat Joe of The Terror Squad is not like anything we have heard from Thalia before, and fans had been calling the studio to request it for days although they had no idea what to expect. The official launch date had been given as April 28th, with the single available for sale on April 29th.

Apparently, Thalia herself heard that the song was being played on KTU and called for a spontaneous interview. (Note: If MdC can make a copy of the interview for us, we will post it here for you.) Besides telling the listeners about her hopes for the song's success, she also revealed that the video for "I Want You" will be filmed in the Bronx this following Monday and Tuesday. All fans are invited to come, she cheerfully said, signing off before giving any further details.

(NOTE: Now we have to hope that the official website, http://www.thalia.com, will provide us with snapshots of the video shoot as they have in the past. Residents of the US and Mexico can also watch El Gordo y La Flaca on Monday for possible coverage of this event.)
