You can't keep a busy executive idle for long. Tommy Mottola recently attended the United Jewish Appeal (UJA) dinner honoring high powered entertainment lawyer Joel Katz. In attendance with his wife, the Mexican soap opera star Thalia, he was said to be "approchable" and sans his usual entourage of heavyweight bodyguards. Tommy was part of the Dinner Committee together with Virgin / EMI Records Matt Serletic (and Dave Munns).
Motola reactivated his Champion Management Company upon his release from Sony Records after leading the company through 14 years of music successes. Those in the know however are wondering if Champion ever really closed shop or was simply waiting in the wings all this time. A quick check of the company registration lists it as being registered to Mottola with an office address on East 55th St. in New York. The biggest client of Champion Entertainment for years was his former wife Mariah Carey. But quite recently, Champion Entertainment began operating as Randy Hoffman Management (Note: Are you thinking what we are thinking Thalia fans?) and was down to about 5 clients in their roster. Can Tommy still attract the big name stars in order to jumpstart his office and make it a major player in the business again?

It doesn't matter to Thalía if other Latin artists have launched one record after another in English in order to achieve popularity in the United States. She has preferred to make the crossover "in reverse", and not only with her voice but as an actress.
The Mexican, who will release an album in this language in July, stated that even if she is very interested in the US market, she feels proud because her records and her telenovelas have been placed in preferred positions in diverse countries of Europe and Asia, singing and acting in Spanish.
"I believe that I am doing it all in reverse: we have already crossed borders toward Europe and Asia thanks to the novelas and my music in Spanish, and now I am coming to the United States with a record having 10 songs in English and five in Spanish."
"There are many songs in English, but I am never going to stop singing in my language. I will never put to one side the people who made me, who gave me the opportunity to be an international artist, to act in novelas and on the stage," she expressed in the interview.
With the first single, "I want you" already being played in the US, the singer stated that the CD will simply be named "Thalía", "because I don't want to make myself complicated and so that they do not get me confused, that they will know that I am me."
In addition, she revealed that at the end of the month she will visit Mexico. "We have scheduled the visit for the end of this month and I am very excited because I am going to present some of the songs on the record which comes out in July (Note: We can probably assume it will mostly be the Spanish ones). I am also going to continue promoting A quién le importa, which people have told me has not stopped playing in Mexico."
Thalía also expressed her enthusiasm because her previous production ("Thalia") has remained high in the popularity lists, the same in Argentina as in Greece, as well as "Thalía Hits Remixed", a CD with danceable versions of her hits.
Questioned about her personal life, the Mexican indicated that her husband, Tommy Mottola, is very busy on his work with the VH1 channel, and that she also allows herself time to supervise the propositions for the line of clothing and accessories which she will launch soon.
"Tommy is very happy, happier than ever, carrying away all the ratings with his production of "Making a Diva" for the VH1 channel, and with my family everything is going great. I am very excited about the record, but I have not stopped worry about what we are preparing for a clothing line, and there will be furniture too and many accessories," she explained.
