She can almost see Tommy in his Grupero costume

Her new record is on the way…and the video?

TW: Correspondent: Tonchi

Thalia says she has already recorded the voice for the songs of her greatest hits, to the rhythm of Banda, that will be included in the record which will come out for sale in the coming month of September. Apparently the actual music will be provided by a band from Sinaloa, which, as you may have figured out, was not even in the studio with her. In fact, they may never meet in person. Instead, the band will record their parts later, and with some studio "magic" the CD will sound like they were performing together.

"It is music that is completely Mexican, very much from our roots, and it is a dream that I always yearned for and that finally I am going to achieve," stated Thalia.

NOTE: But even before the above statement was published, TV y Novelas made the claim on Despierta America that Thalia was already rehearsing for the video. We have seen the pictures of the photo shoot in the Banda costume, leather and jeans, but here is the clincher! Although she could request just about any sexy star in the world to appear with her in this video, she wants to have it filmed with her and Tommy Mottola!! Are they serious? Well, TV y Novelas claims that they are already working on designing a Banda costume for Tommy to wear. We are not about to bet that the head of Sony Records is anxious to appear in an EMI video, so we will just have to wait and see if this is just another fictional headline.

Thalia was sadly a non - winner at the Billboard Latin awards. The honor of Pop Album of the Year - Female went, as expected, to American born Latina Christina Aguilera for her album Mi Reflejo. She may not have won a major award that night but Thalia still showed the elegance and finesse that makes her one of the most admired Latina's in the world as she received her special Estrella Award. The newest award on the Billboard block. This award is given in recognition of outstanding achievements in the entertainment field.

Thalia is becoming somewhat of a fashion template these days. Wearing no less than two different outfits to various awards ceremonies. This ceremony was no exception. Her red carpet outfit was made by Robert Cavalli while her award ceremony gown was by Randolph Duke. Below, we see how Thalia wowed the cameras yet again.

The thing that most impressed Raul, he said, was how gracious and friendly Thalia always is to the fans who recognized her. Of course, if you had several photographers and a film crew following you around, you would undoubtedly get recognized a lot! Raul called Thalia "the most pursued woman in the world"

"Lexus Thali" is back in Miami, enjoying a shopping trip

(Sorry, we just could not help doing a take-off on that great oldie, "Mustang Sally" :D Can't you just imagine how great Thalia would look singing that real slow and dancing like only she can?)

Since her wedding with record company executive Tommy Mottola last December 3rd, Thalía lives a life of great luxury. Without the presence of an entourage of bodyguards and accompanied only by a female friend, the Mexican singer spends her time driving through the streets of Miami in a Lexus 2002 convertible, while her husband surely attends to his business dealings.

Shopping time!
Rockera Thalia ! The interpreter of "Amor a la Mexicana" and "Arrasando" was seen last Thursday shopping in the Bal Harbour Mall, where some of the most exclusive shops in the city are located. At around 4:40 pm, Miami time, the actress stopped in several places to look at what they exhibited there. Perhaps thinking to acquire some paintings for the residence that she shares with Mottola, she visited The Art Gallery, although she left empty-handed, maybe because nothing appealed to her. Later, because she felt like it and not to throw off the paparazzi who captured her during her stroll, since she acted indifferent, Thalía changed her outfit for a black, sleeveless T-shirt that she bought in one of the places that she visited.

The T-shirt carried a logo of a guitar with wings in the center, with the legend "Rock And Roll Fever", that she complemented with a belt with a clasp in the form of a tongue , characteristic of the Rolling Stones.

The happy Mrs. Mottola also took advantage of her free time to take a pleasant drive through the avenues of Miami in a luxury Toyota Lexus 2002, with a market value of approximately $70,000. The silver gray, two-seated model with a super powerful V-8 motor capable of reaching high speeds, is the vehicle which the artist now pilots. Thalia's Lexus 2002

Undoubtedly, Thalía is taking the maximum advantage of her free times because soon she will be on the way back to Mexico, and not exactly in order to attend a party but in order to promote her next record, which will be of her hit songs but to the rhythm of mariachi. The album, of which little has been said, will include songs like "Amor a la Mexicana", which she completed in Los Angeles studios a few weeks ago.

Although it was not made with this intention, the album will be very appropriate for the purpose of celebrating her 20 years of artistic career. According to reports from her record company, EMI Music, the singer already reached a million copies sold for her production Arrasando, in Mexico, the United States, Greece, Chile, Venezuela, Argentina, Uruguay, Spain, and the Philippines.

Thalía's new CD just a few months away!

TW Correspondent: Tonchi
Source: Grupo Reforma, April 7, 2001
By: Lorena Corpus

Due to the approaching release of a new CD, Thalía supposedly will not be appearing in public for a few months. (Note: This makes the fans wonder if she does not intend to be at the Latin Grammys, which are being held this month in Miami. It was assumed that she would either appear, or perform, or receive an award for Arrasando, or maybe all of the above.)

According to Carmen Salinas, long-time friend and producer of the stage show "Aventurera", Thalía will present the plaque for the 1000th performance rather than the 900th, owing to the fact that right now the singer can't make public appearances because she will be just about completely worn out when she attends the staging which stars Itatí Cantoral.

"Thalía has no opportunity to come because right now they will not permit her to do any public appearances until her new record comes out, but she promised me that she is coming to the 1000th performance which we will celebrate in Mexico City."

(NOTE: According to our sources in the record business, the Greatest Hits in Banda CD is scheduled for release in Mexico and the US on June 19, 2001. If that is the case, then the CD which is discussed in the above story is NOT a new work at all. Obviously, this will be a mixed blessing then, and a possible disappointment to Thalía fans who eagerly await new compositions from their diva in the Pop style.)

The actress and producer of the work invited Thalía to be the madrina of the unveiling during the baptism of Cantoral's sons last Saturday, but she excused herself for not accepting the invitation due to the plans of her record company.

"She is definitely disposed to come to the work, she never said "No". She is the simplest girl, she is sweet, kind, and pretty. The is a child who is very easy to get along with, and she does not have any reason to put herself above someone else at all. The fact that she married one of the most powerful men in the world has not changed her personality."

She said that, in addition, the wife of Tommy Mottola returned the favor of Salinas' request by inviting her to spend some vacation time at one of her residences in the United States.

"I sat down with her at the baptism and we chatted a long time. She asked me when I was going to Miami, she said to me "I expect you in my house in Miami or in New York." She is a girl like Itatí, who despite being a little rich girl since she was born, she is the most simple and affectionate." (Note: If Thalía was rich from the time she was born, that is not the way she and her mother tell the story.)

Due to Thalía's commitments, Salinas commented that she decided to invite the governor of Monterrey, Fernando Canales Clarión, in order to unveil the plaque referring to the 900 performances on May 11, 2001, in Monterrey.

"I also invited Aracely Arámbula and I want to invite one girl more, maybe Nailea Norvind. (Note: Nailea stole the husband of Thalía's sister about 10 years ago and Thalía holds her in great contempt as a result.) I am doing that because I worked with them in "Abrázame muy Fuerte" and there was a great affinity."

Despite complaints about the high cost of the tickets in cities like Tijuana, the actress stated that they will continue carrying the work throughout the Republic. "People made a scandal because they said we charged too much for the ticket (850 pesos). (Note: which is about US$8.50) In Monterrey they raised it to 900 pesos and they are already all sold, but there is where the people with class go, "The Beautiful People", who pay whatever cost in order to see a good show."

"In Tijuana two or three complained, but they have to ask the promoter what it costs to bring 70 people there in an airplane and pay for rooms and meals. The same promoter charges 500 to 2,000 pesos for admission to see Vicente Fernández or Alejandro Fernández and they fill the hall."

No New Telenovela This Year -- But There is a New CD

TW Correspondent: Luisa

Reported By: Roxana Navarro

Thalia revealed quite a bit of information to the mexican press during the press conference at the baptism of the Santamarina Cantoral twins. She revealed that at the moment, she is not thinking of making any telenovela. She related that she had recieved invitations from Salvador Majia and Carla Estrada but she had declined because she prefers to rest at present.

"Salvador Mejia and I planned a thousand things, a thousand projects, but at the moment I cannot do it. Carla Estrada also invited me to make a telenovela but I could not and I believe that the part went to Adelita ( Adela Noriega)".

But she is busy with her music.

"I already made a cd that is going to be released soon." she announced to univision.com at the Premios Lo Nuestro. She promises it will be a hit, since it introduces a new musical concept. "I cannot reveal the suprise from the band." she warned.

She commented that at the moment there are no plans to record duets with the rock greats like Elton John and Aerosmith, both of whom she was recently photographed with. She added that "knowing them has been a wonderful thing. They are very creative people and it is a wonderful experience to absorb their thoughts. "

No tours, but they still love Thalía

Without any big display, Thalía's record "Arrasando" has already reached a million copies sold on an international level.

"Her album already reached a million copies - in Mexico alone it has sold more than 250 thousand units, in the United states it has upwards of 240 thousand and it is also a Gold Record," stated Monica Meza, Manager of International Publicity at EMI.

"We are going to reward our artist, but we are looking at the way to organize an event in which we may give her what is deserved," she stated.

The singer was already credited with a Gold Record in Greece, Chile, Venezuela, and Uruguay, according to the date from the aforementioned record company.

"In Spain it is already a Platinum Record, it has sold more than 190,000 units, equal to in Argentina and the Philippines. In Central America it has come out in all the territories and also it is already a Gold Record," she added.

The previously cited numbers were gathered in a period of almost a year, although its launching has been out of phase on an international level.

"Arrasando is a record with which Thalía has entered into new markets such as Canada, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal, and Japan. It is important to mention that in Japan she is the first Latin woman to achieve entering the market and to sell records," claimed Meza.

Other countries where the wife of Tommy, president of Sony Entertainment, entered with this album were Arabia, Lithuania, Turkey, and Bulgaria, as well as Greece and Hungary. "There are European markets where it is well accepted, such as Czechoslovakia, where we carried 15,000 units despite it being a small territory, explained the manager.

Until now, "Amor a la Mexicana" is Thalía's highest selling album; on an international level it sold 3 million copies.

Itati and Thalia are Now Comadres

It was a baptism for the children of Itati Cantoral and Eduardo Santamarina, but their Godmother, Thalia, stole the show. The singer arrived in Mexico loaded with gifts for her godsons and declaring that between her and Itati, a lifetime bond has been formed - that of comadres.

Comadres for life
Good friends in real life, mortal enemies in reel life Coma Itati, as Thalia calls her, did not seem to be bothered by all the attention Mrs. Mottola was getting. Thalia attended the baptism at Quinta Esmeralda in Cuernavaca, Mexico. After the ceremony, the proud parents came out to apologize to the press for not allowing them in to witness it. Instead they gave a detailed account of the ceremony that took place on the large estate.
Luxurious Godmother

Itati had promised to present her comadre to the press and she did. In a few minutes, Thalia appeared with straight loose hair and a white dress. She greeted everyone with a smile and answered all the questions asked. She embraced her good friend Itati, spoke of her commitment to being the childrens godmother and why Tommy was not with her. Later on she also talked of her wish to become a mother herself.

Thalia Makes Fun of Salma

TW Correspondent: Luisa
Source: Notimex / Terra
Reported By: Norberto Angel Peña

Thalia, in a likeable and simple way made fun of Salma Hayek as she parodied an incident between the veracruzana and the Mexican press a few days ago.

"Do not touch me, you have already hit me in the face." Thalia said, alluding to the declarations of the veracruzana, in greeting the press gathered to chat with her during the baptism in which she was goodmother to the babies of Eduardo Santamarina and Itati Cantoral.

" It is an honor, a very important commitment and a lifetime responsibility. I pray that God may be in their hearts and in those of their parents besides which I wish them a peaceful marriage.", said the singer.

Thalía, a confessed noncatholic Christian , commented that in order to be a godmother one does not have to believe in religions but one must adore Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. "I have no religion, but if the priest mentioned God, it is his will that he be in the children's hearts. "

She indicated the she also accepted because she has known Itati since they worked together on the soap opera "Maria La Del Barrio". In addition, she described the family of the protagonist of "Adventurera" as "warm and wonderful". "They invited me and I told them that I will do it."

She explained that the abscence of her husband Tommy Mottola was due to meetings he had to attend with executives of his record company in Miami. She said she will return to Mexico in 2 weeks, to begin promotions of her new grupera cd. This is why she had to reject the proposal for her to make a soap opera for Carla Estrada.

Thalia assured everyone that she will still celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving, possibily in May, since it would no longer be possible to have a wedding like the one she had in New York.

Friends and stars attend the festive baptism of Itati and Eduardo's children.
Roberto and Eduardo Miguel, children of the marriage union of famed actors Itati Cantoral and Eduardo Santamarina, yesterday received the sacrament of baptism in a luxurious garden in the city of Cuernavaca. Their godmother of honor is the singer Thalia who attended without her husband Tommy Mottola. The interpreter of the song "Arrasando" arrived in the city last Wednesday, interrupting her artistic activities to become the godmother of the protagonists of El Precio de Tu Amor and Adventurera.

"Itati and I have known each other for years, our friendship started during the soap opera Maria La Del Barrio, she invited me to be the godmother and I said: 'It goes without saying' . My husband had a meeting in Miami with executives of Sony and for that reason he could not come." Thalia indicated.

Beginning Saturday morning, the residents of the house number 23 on Pedro Alvarado St. began to register activity as the members of the company Le Crossaints began to prepare for the banquet that hours later would be served to 200 guests.

The garden where the baptism was held The large tennis court on the property of the Cantorals, was specially decorated with inflatable childrens games, whereas in the garden, tables covered with table cloths in tones complied with the White and Lime Green motiff.

The first personalities to arrive for the ceremony were the composer Armando Manzanero with the actress Ana Luisa Peluffo and Ana Patricia Rojo, who wished great happiness for the little Santamaria Cantoral children, who at the moment are 7 months of age.

"I feel happy for sharing this moment with the family Santamaria Cantoral because they are my friends. The baptism of their children is the most beautiful thing that can exist to erase the original sin." said Manzanero, who sang the song "Don't Forget Childhood" in the middle of the mass.

On the other hand, Peluffo said that the friendship that unite her with Itati, Eduardo and their respective families are very great. The petit actress chose to give Eduardo and Roberto Miguel gold medals with the words I am a child in the image of Christ.

Minutes after the mass celebrated by the priest Jesus Rodrguez, the orchestra Fuego Lento brightened up the reception.

"We are very happy, we finished baptizing the children, they are now children of God and cleared of original sin, thanks to God they were very behaved." expressed a smiling Itati and Eduardo.

Roberto Cantoral Dressed in a sky blue suit, Roberto Cantoral assured that he felt happy to be present at the baptism of his two "kids", as he described them.

"They are very pretty, hopefully they are also very happy. I hope that God always helps them and accompanies them so that they are good men and they adore their Mother Country." said the creator of "El Reloj".

Among the many artist personalities that arrived to congratulate the pair of actors were Silvia Pinal, Angelica Rivera, Jose Alberto Castro, Norma Herrera, Carla Estrada, René Casados, Carmen Salinas, Sergio Goyri, Carlos Ponce, in addition to Laura Zapata and Ernestina, sisters of Thalía.

The most common gifts for the little twins were toys, suits of the same color and design, shoes and books, these last ones made by Telly Filipini, wife of Sergio Goyri.

The banquet that the guests enjoyed were made up of Chicken Breast in Chipotle Sauce, cold cucumber cream, stuffed tomato salad with goat cheese, and Raspberry cake.Refreshments served were tequila, beer, and tamarindo.

(NOTE: Obviously, this event was neither "strictly private with only friends and the closest family of the couple" being invited nor was it anything like the ethnic ceremony they originally planned to hold in the middle of an archaeological zone which had no public facilities. The baptism sounds like a lovely party which was enjoyed by all, and it turned out much better this way.}
