Happy together

Source: Cristina la revista, February 2001, Mira!, January 30, 2001, TV & Novelas, February 5, 2001
TW Correspondents: Tonchi & Luisa

No pictures…..and no reports whatsoever have surfaced from the supposed honeymoon that Thalía and Tommy took within a day of the wedding on December 2nd. For a total of 20 days out of the country, if we can believe stories planted by members of her family, they were sharing wedded bliss in Bali, but El Gordo de Molina says that the only place they went was to the Caribbean.

Now, Mira! (the Spanish-language version of The National Inquirer) says they actually did not leave New York immediately, and they produced several pictures they claim were taken during the honeymoon, with Thalía and Tommy in the streets outside their townhouse in New York - with no coats???! Gimme a break! It was zero degrees Fahrenheit in New York the whole month! No way the first pic was taken after the wedding! But in the second one, maybe; Thalía is wearing a long, heavy, luxurious fur coat.

Cristina Magazine has a cute story about how the portrait of the newlyweds was taken after dinner in the crab restaurant in Miami. An Argentine photographer had the nerve to ask Tommy's bodyguards if they could get permission to take a picture of him and Thalía, and the couple was in a very good mood and agreed. This was the dinner where they were with her mother and sister. But it seems that Thalía was not wearing any makeup, so she made them wait until she had put on some cosmetics before they snapped the picture.

That same night, after they left the crab restaurant and strolled with Thalía's family down the shops on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach, photographers from TV & Novelas caught them. The huge bodyguard with them was going to send the paparazzi on their way, but again the happy couple allowed posed pictures. What a change from the early days!

I only have eyes for you

We hope that you enjoy these little vignettes and agree with us that this is obviously a really great relationship that Thalía and her new husband are enjoying.

Thalía leaving telenovelas? NOT!

Source: LaBotana.com, January 27, 2001
TW Correspondents: Tonchi & Luisa

A feature in LaBotana.com today is purely speculation. They say: "Possibly the Mexican diva Thalía will not return to the telenovelas anymore. Although the singer and actress may still have a contract with Televisa to star in another teleseries, it is possible that she no longer 'can' return to the small screen owing to the long time that it takes to film a story - 5 to 8 months. The interpreter of 'Regresa a Mi' will not want to leave Tommy Mottola for such a long time all alone in New York, she wants to dedicate her international career to music, her grand passion."

Who says Thalía can't take the time to film a telenovela nowdays? She lives in Miami more than in New York, and Sony has a huge headquarters in Miami which manages the Latin Music division, besides the fact that Emilio Estefan's recording studios are based out of Miami. Thalía does not have to leave home at all if she is filming another novela for Televisa.

We need to point out that there is a very successful trend in novelas right now to have them filmed in Miami. The still-popular "Morelia", starring Thalía's old galán from Maria Mercedes, Arturo Peniche, was filmed in Miami many years ago. One of the most successful novelas ever, "La Mujer de mi Vida", was set in Miami and was a joint venture with Venezuelan television. The latest, showing on Univisión right now, is "La Revancha", and we are sure that fans might be able to think of several more they have seen.

So Televisa is perfectly capable of setting up an entire production in Miami, and Thalía would not even have to leave her house to film it. She could even record a cd or two in between! And we know that she gave concerts while shooting "Mari Mar", because she had that blonde "mecha" suddenly show up in her hairdo about the time she became Bella Aldama.

The only question is, then, how bad Televisa wants another novela starring Thalía that they would go to the trouble. We think everyone knows the answer to that! :D

News Flash!! Another "baby" is on the way!!

Source: El Gordo y La Flaca, Univisión, January 24, 2001
TW Correspondent: Tonchi

Yes, the only "baby" that Thalia is going to have as of now is in the studio :D Remember how she said in her interview on Cristina last February that she "already had a baby" and it was her new CD, "Arrasando". Well, another baby is on the way!

Lili Estefan was elaborating on a statement that Thalia's mom, Doña Yolanda, had made about the rumors that Thalia was pregnant, when she announced that both Thalia and Tommy had told her that they do not intend to have children for at least a year, because - among other reasons - Thalia has her new record to bring out! She is in the studio right now, recording and working on the composition of new songs.

The projected release date? "This fall," says Lili, and the new CD will be in both English and Spanish.

Ready for the unveiling

Mitzy carefully checked each one of the details of the outfit which the artist chose for her renovated wax figure, and now it is possible that next week the wife of Tommy Mottola may come to Mexico City for the inauguration of the same in the Wax Museum

The figure, under the care of Omar Acosta and a team of sculptors from the Wax Museum is now practically ready, it only lacks the last touches, such as the makeup, which will be completed by the same makeup artist used by Thalía.

Mauricio Rabner, marketing manager of the Wax Museum, who was present at the session, stated that the figure weighs 30 kilos and is certified with the same measurements as the artist, which are 90-50-90. "The figure is 100% beeswax, the eyes are crystal, the teeth are a prosthesis, and they will implant natural hair into it. But besides that, it will wear a black wig, because the look is very similar to what is shown in the video of one of the songs from her record "En Extasis."

"We are hoping that Thalía will come next week to see the figure already completely ready. We don’t know if her husband will come. Later we will put it on exhibition for the public," stated Rabner.

The figure was completed in three months, he said, by petition of the public itself, since the existing one is not in accord with the new image that the actress now displays. Rabner considered that the investment in the new figure is not much higher because the wax is quite cheap, but he said that it is certainly important to consider the artistic work of the sculptors. He was not aware if the former work will be given to Thalía as a gift, but he did not discount the possibility.

Thalía will have her boutique in New York: Despite the fact that they still do not even have a location, it is a done deal that the singer will have her boutique in New York, and that she will do it in association with Mitzy, and, of course, with her husband.

"Thalía made the proposal to me last year, but remember that first we were dedicated to the dresses for her wedding. In my next meeting with her we were able to define when the boutique would start up," he stated. "It is an association between Thalía and I. Obviously, upon doing it with her it is also with Mr. Mottola, because he is her husband, but we can’t give any information in advance, we still do not even have the location."

The stylist said that the idea occurred to the actress herself. "One day she said to me that they lacked the more exclusive things in New York, and why not have us do a boutique," he commented.

Thalía by Mitzy is the name that the boutique will have, a project which represents an important achievement in his career. "I have already had boutiques in the United States, but this project represents a major internationalization, with great designers and great luminaries."

Thalia in a Green Shift dress

It is possible that the business will start up at the end of this year, because, he said, things ought to be done calmly and not to be in a hurry.

The beautiful Mexican actress and singer could arrive in Mexico next week, not to get married again but in order to see how her new replica in the Wax Museum of Mexico City turned out.

This time the new wax Thalía will have the exact measurements of the singer: 90-50-90 (centimeters). The little outfit that the figure will display will be signed by Mitzy, Thalía's favorite designer. Mitzy has been put in charge of the complete renovation of Thalía's statue: "She said to me, 'Mitzy, you are there and I am here and I need you to watch very carefully to see that this is done correctly. I am depending on you." So Mitzy has been supervising everything and dressed the figure himself with a copy of the outfit which he originally made for her 4 years ago.

That is how the clothes got on the wax figure, but it is not yet known if on the feet will be an example of the shoes by the famous Brazilian designer Fernando Pires, considered in his country to be the "Shoe Architect". If this is the case, the Wax Thalía will have to be guarded 24 hours a day, because the shoes by this designer are the most coveted in the world. (Note: Didn't Mitzy say before that the boots and gloves would also be the original ones worn in the "Gracias a Dios" video?)

Pires has among his more famous clients Thalía herself, Madonna, Mariah Carey, and many other personalities. The stylist has said that in Thalía's last visit to Brazil (in June of 2000), she bought 37 pairs of shoes and 13 purses from his shop. He also claimed that she was so fascinated by the shoes by this "architect" that she invited him to participate with her in opening a store in New York. She plans to feature clothing by Mitzy and shoes by Pires. The shop might still be inaugurated this year of 2001.

LaBotana also reports that Mitzy intends to listen to the advice of his friend and most famous client, Thalía, and open a boutique in the city of New York. According to the rumors, Thalía will help the Mexican stylist locate his shop in the US, and a source close to Mitzy commented that Thalía might enter into the project as an associate proprietor.

Thalía on Super Sabado Sensacional

Source: Super Sabado Sensacional, Univisión,
Broadcast in the US on January 20, 2001
Te Correspondents: Tonchi & Luisa

After waiting six months after the original broadcast in Venezuela, Thalía fans in the US, Mexico, and elsewhere were able to see her appearance on the popular Caracas-based variety show.

It was a fantastic show, a "collector's item" type of event, because the Venezuelans went all-out to give the total Thalía experience. Clips from all of her earlier career points were shown, from the earliest Timbiriche performances, her telenovelas all the way from Pobre Señora Limantour to María la del Barrio, and all points in between. A lot of it was repetition for die-hard fans (how many times do you need to ask Thalía how many sisters she has or make her tell the same story about losing her father having been a formative event in her youth?).

They also brought on a celebrity fortune teller, "La Diosa de las Estrellas", to read Thalía's fortune and tell her about herself and her future. Of course, anybody who has read any fan magazines could have "revealed" that Thalía is loyal, sensual, passionate, beautiful inside and out, and all the typical list, but we were interested to hear her predict that although Thalía would marry someone she loved very much, she would only have one child in her life, a girl. We'll have to wait and see whether this prediction comes true.

Filmed back in June of 2000, while Thalía was appearing in Venezuela to promote the newly-released "Arrasando", this show also included Thalía being presented with a gold record for sales of this CD, and other awards. In addition, she attended a ceremony where her star was installed on the "Walk of Fame" in Caracas (similar to Calle Ocho in Miami and Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles), and Thalía pressed her hands into the moist concrete and signed the slab.

Thalía performed two of her hits: "Regresa a mí" and "Entre el Mar y Una Estrella" and at the end it appears that they spliced on a performance of Arrasando that was taped on a different occasion.

On the following pages, you will see a souvenier album of this performance with accompany video clips.

Dining out with the paparazzi

Remember how the plot went in Thalía’s movie, "Mambo Cafe"? A restaurant that desperately needs to attract customers gains more attention than they can handle when a mobster makes the place famous by getting killed there. In an ironic twist on this story, an already popular crab restaurant in Miami Beach is becoming the "in" place to be if you want to spot Thalía. It appears that she and Tommy are there so frequently, usually in the company of Thalía’s family or Emilio Estefan, that it is almost guaranteed that by now all the paparazzi and half the Thalía fans in the area will be there too. Check your cameras and lighting crew at the door, please :D

For the third time in less than 2 months, film of the Mottola party at dinner in this restaurant has appeared on El Gordo y La Flaca. Raul even commented, "Do they eat anything else but crabs? Does this seafood have some special properties that we aren’t aware of?"

Of course, it did not take Thalía long to realize that they were being photographed, even though the photographer was using infra-red film in the darkened restaurant (which explains the poor quality of the images), but she did not seem to be upset about it and she even waved to the camera before departing. As the cameras followed, The Mottolas, with Doña Yolanda and another of her daughters, strolled down the fashionable stores in the area, casually window shopping.

While viewing their reactions in the videoclip, a fantasy conversation took shape in our minds. Here is our take on how their discussion went. This is just for fun folks. No puns intended :D

A family dinner (1)
Thalia: (smiling sweetly) Don't look now guys, but I think we are busted.
Tommy: (Laughs) So much for an incognito dinner.
Thalia points out the photographer (2)
Yolanda: (Whispering) Huh? What do you mean?
Thalia: (Points) Over there mama. He is taking our photos.
Don't Look. Pretend not to see him.

Strolling arm in arm (3)
Tommy: (Nudges Thalia) Is he still following us?
Thalia: Yes. Smile sweetly for the camera. He will leave us alone after he gets his pictures.

On vacation in the Miami sun

After her wedding, the honeymoon, and some vacation around the Holidays in New York, Thalia returned to Miami with her new husband for the Christmas and New Years celebrations. This was not necessarily what they intended to do originally, her sisters had been telling the reporters that the Sodi family would be Tommy's guests in New York, but the fact is that around Christmas New York was hit with massive snow storms and sub-zero cold and the weather has not improved much since. So it seems that the whole crew moved down to Miami instead. Cameras from El Gordo y la Flaca caught them eating in a seafood restaurant on Christmas day.

Thalia and Emilio Estefan out for a day of biking in Miami Recently, the Mexican singer traveled up and down Miami Beach on a bicycle, accompanied by her friend and producer, Emilio Estefan. The Estefan family frequently takes bike rides in the area, and undoubtedly it was decided that it would not be safe for Thalia to be riding alone, without somebody to block any unwanted attention. Thalia was spotted by various paparazzi while she strolled on the beach, which resulted in several photographers following her in order to obtain the first photos after the honeymoon.

"Thalia is well loved by the paparazzi," commented a photographer who was at the location. "For this reason, when she is in Miami we are all on the look-out."

This latest issue of TV y Novelas has some pretty good aerial pictures taken of the compound on Star Island where the mansion being built for Thalia and Tommy.

Tentative completion date is around the middle of this year according to Mitzy. The residence is located at the entrance of Star Island, an exclusive, private, residential enclave on a man-made island off Miami Beach. The address is one of the first reached after getting off the causeway connecting Star Island with the mainland, and it is directly to the side of the Estefan property, in view of the guest house where Tommy and Thalia used to meet when she was still commuting from Mexico City while filming Rosalinda.

The New York townhouse purchased by Tommy for $25 Million is also being renovated. As we told you in a previous article, there are actually 3 separate houses behind that façade that were combined by a previous owner. The Mottolas will divide the space up again so that 2 of the 3 units may be sold for a profit and they will live in the 3rd one themselves.

Here is what the pictures show of the work in progress: #1 is the exterior façade of the New York home; #2 is a view of the interior under renovation and the workmen. The interior was still not anywhere near finished when the picture was taken; #3 is the window over the front entry, showing a curious monogram, a large "T". Hmmm, what could that stand for? :D

Thalía will star at the Premio Lo Nuestro 2001 presentation

Source: El Norte, January 11, 2001

TW Correspondents: Tonchi & Luisa

Thalía has been invited to be one of the presenters at the 13th Annual Premios Lo Nuestro awards ceremony, which is to be held at the James L. Knight Center in Miami on February 8, 2001. Univision, who sponsors this event, has said that she has accepted.

Her co-host will be Marco Antonio Regil, whose new program, "100 Mexicanos Dijeron" (100 Mexicans Said) has become a rating success in Thalía's native country. As a result of Regil's popular acceptance among Hispanics during the special broadcast by Univision of the New Years celebrations, he was invited to be a conductor at this ceremony of the "people's choice" awards for the best in Latin/Hispanic music. He and Thalía have never worked together previously.

Another of the conductors will be Univision's own Fernando Arau, from Despierta America, who will provide the comic touch to the event. Julio Zavala has been the conductor for several years, and many of his jokes have been criticized for being brutal or in bad taste. At least, if he is not one of the conductors this year but Thalía is, we will not have to hear any of his Thalía jokes.

As you also know, Thalía is nominated in the category of Best Album of the Year, for "Arrasando." However, she is not nominated in the category of Best Female Artist of the Year, which we find to be an inexplicable oversight.

Premios Lo Nuestro sees a year of changes

Source: ZonaI.com, San Juan, Puerto Rico, January 9, 2001
Awards description from Univision.com
TW Correspondent: Tonchi

The Premios Lo Nuestro have undergone a lot of changes this year as a result of the initiation of the Latin Grammys.

Awards are traditionally made in the categories of Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Male Artist, Female Artist, New Artist, and Group or Duo of the Year in the musical areas of Pop, Tropical, and Regional Mexican Music. This year they have added 13 categories, including two which recognize excellence in Latin Rock - Best Album, and Best Interpretation. Other new categories are: Best Interpretation of Ranchera, Grupera, Tejano, and Norteña, all styles of the regional Mexican music; also added is Best Interpretation of Merengue and Salsa, which is under the heading of Tropical Music.

The organizers of the event have felt obligated to make a series of changes to El Premio Lo Nuestro, due to the initiation of the Latin Grammys in September, among which are the addition of categories and moving up the date of the awards which had been previously scheduled at the beginning of May. (Note: Interestingly enough, the Latin Grammys came under heavy criticism in their first year of existence as being only a tool for Emilio Estefan and Sony Records (i.e., Tommy Mottola) to promote their own artists, and many of the performers who fit into the "new" Lo Nuestro categories actually returned their Latin Grammys to the awards committee in protest.)

The nominees and the winners of the Premio Lo Nuestro were chosen in an independent manner by radio programmers between February 1 and October 31 of 2000. According to the organizers, all the votes were counted and certified by the accounting firm of Arthur Andersen, LLP, which also will tabulate and certify the final winners. He is the description of how the winners are chosen, taken from the Univision website:

Selection of the winners

Premio Lo Nuestro consists of three stages: selection of the pre-nominees, of the nominees, and the presentation to the artists who are winners of the awards on the day of the ceremony, which is transmitted live by Univision

The election of the pre-nominees is based on those artists who release a record this year. The record houses are in charge of sending a list to Univision of the singers and groups who debut a musical production. Univision does not participate in the process of selection of the pre-nominees, they are only the medium of information and the broadcasters.

The record houses send their suggestions for the subcategories of Best Album, Male Artist, Female Artist, Group, and New Artist. Le pre-nominees in the subcategory of Song of the Year are chosen from among the artists who occupied the first places in the lists of popularity.

In the case of the prize for Best Video of the Year, each record house sends a selection of the five videos that were the best productions of the year. Afterwards, a jury made up of directors, cameramen, editors, lighting directors, and other specialists who do not work at Univision, chose the winners in this category.

With all the pre-nominees, Univision prepares a folio that is sent to the programming directors of Hispanic radio stations in the United States (not including Puerto Rico) Those directors, more than 300, make their selections in the different categories in competition and return the folio to the offices of Arthur Andersen, the company charged with the counting of the results.

From the selections that the programming directors make comes the list of nominees, and another folio is made up which is sent again to the programming directors so that they may elect who they consider the winning artists for the different prizes.

The subcategories of interpretation - a new element in the genre Regional Mexican and Tropical - as well as the New Artist, Best Group, Female Artist, and Male Artist, have four nominees, while those for Album and Song of the Year have five nominees.

For the first time, in Premio Lo Nuestro 2001, they have incorporated the People's Choice Prize, which consists of three subcategories in which the public may choose which is their favorite artist in the genres of Tropical, Regional Mexican, and Pop.

(NOTE: All of those new categories cause the field in which Thalía might be qualified to win the award to be narrowed even further, because she has nothing to do with regional Mexican music. But it is still surprising that she was not nominated either for Female Performer of the year in the Pop category, nor in the category of Best Song of the Year or Video of the Year. Thalía previously won a Premio Lo Nuestro in 1998, for Best Female Artist of the Year.)

Mitzy talks about making a "new Thalía"

Source: Reforma, January 11, 2001, By Nora Marín

Having suddenly become the most nearly official source of news about Thalía since his pivotal role in her wedding last month, the Mexico City designer has been giving interviews almost every day. And it’s a good thing, too, because he is the only one who is letting us know what is going on with our diva right now!

Thalia in the "Gracias a la Vida" video looking like a Japanese doll As they humorously said in the article at Univision.com, Thalía’s figure has to "have some surgery", to "slim it down a little bit." For obvious reasons, they could not use the same figure and dress it in the "Gracias a Dios" costume when the waist of that statue was 30 centimeters bigger than Thalía’s actual measurements. Said Mitzy: "They had to do the figure all over again because in the first one she appears too fat. A replica of the outfit that she used in the video of "Gracias a la Vida" where she comes out like a little Japanese, with a black wig, a corset, a brassiere, little shorts and boots. I took the original corset, but it measures 50 centimeters in the waist and the figure has about 80."

"They focused on making the face very well, but not the body, and since the first time I saw it I realized that. Since the previous dress was long it did not matter so much, but this time it is a corset and it is certainly going to be noticed."

It is expected that the unveiling of the new figure will be by the entertainer herself next February.

Mitzy, who also made up the previous costume for the wax figure of Thalía, explained that the new one was chosen by Thalía herself two months ago, which is the reason that the directors of the Wax Museum agreed to redo the figure. "Señora Yolanda (Thalía’s mother) saw the figure and said that it had to be changed. She and Thalía asked me to be watching closely so that it would come out well, with the new look and the color of hair that it has now."

"They changed the whole statue and it came out with more resemblance to Thalía, very pretty. We checked out the bust and mainly the waist. I will give them the costume this Friday (tomorrow), I will dress the statue so that whatever thing that does not look right will be fixed, but it all is being checked."

He claimed that there exists the intention of making another statue in Guadalajara, but it will depend on the next visit that the artist makes to the Wax Museum. "Doña Yolanda said, ‘If they make it like they ought to, fine then, but if not, it makes no sense," stated Mitzy.

(NOTE: Another thing that we hope they will change is the location of Thalía’s statue in the Wax Museum. The way it is posed now, she looks like she is standing on Main Street somewhere with a bunch of other characters that can’t even be identified with her. Even Lucero’s figure has it’s own alcove, and Thalía deserves as much. And because there is very poor security in this museum, people are constantly stealing pieces of the costume or the figure as souvenirs. The favorite item to be carried off seems to be the flamboyant earrings, which actually are donated by Thalía.)

On El Gordo y La Flaca last Friday, they showed a video of the wax figure being touched up at the museum, and featured an interview with Mitzy where he showed the diminutive size of the costume which Thalía wore in the famous video. It’s a fact, that corset is so small that it would hardly go around El Gordo’s wrist! Mitzy also showed the cute little "chonis", which are shorts/panties/knickers covered with those metallic disks that made the costume sparkle when she moved. The brazier is also so small that Mitzy wrapped it around his head, covering his eyes like a blindfold!

Thalia wax figure gets a retouch "Whale" of a wax figure

Looking it in the eye, the present statue is not too bad. But it was put up 10 years ago, and although the style of dress must have made sense at that point in Thalía’s career, it is an atrocity now. When you look at the measurements you will not even recognize anything of Thalía, the body looks more like Laura Leon :D

Jorge Muñoz, who was substituting for El Gordo that day, upon seeing the view of the statue from an angle that made it look like a whale, said that this statue must have been made before Thalía had all the ribs removed. This led Lili Estefan to crack up. Then Lili said that if the museum really wanted to make this exhibit as much like Thalía is today as possible, they need to put a statue of Doña Yolanda there next to her!!

The show then dissolved into wise cracks about ribs and protective mothers. We hope you enjoy the "before" version from this show, and we hope to soon be able to provide vid caps of the "new" Thalía.

The Mrs. Mottola Nobody Knows

Our very good friend Ed Grant, who is a contributing writer for Time.com sent us a few links to this very witty and "Bring back the memories" article he wrote for the online magazine regarding the "New Mrs. Mottola" . It is a 3 page article which can be best described as "Thalia 101" for those new to her fan base. Thanks to ED, Thalia also managed to make it to the cover page of this highly prestigious magazine.

Thalia’s New Wax Image Will Be a More Exact Copy

Source: El Norte, January 5, 2001

The wax figure of Thalia will be renovated; it will have realistic measurements and a new look

Mexico City. – Thalia has petitioned to renovate her figure on exhibit in the Wax Museum in Mexico City.

Mitzy, the head fashion designer of the singer and actress, has been charged with designing the new costume that the replica will wear, and also to make sure that this time it will have her exact measurements.

"They already made the new wax figure, and yes, now it has a 51 centimeter waistline, because Thalia was not in agreement with the one on exhibit. She has never measured more than 55 centimeters." affirmed Mitzy.

Thalia at pressconference launching her perfume last year

The designer indicated that the first replica which they did of the interpreter of "Arrasando" had a waistline of 80 centimeters, had too much bust, and its face was too fat, reasons why the new one tried to approach Thalia in a more aesthetically realistic manner.

Another one of the changes will be the clothes. Now the clothes to be used will be taken from the "Gracias a la Vida" video, a song from the "En Extasis" album.

"I have the original clothes, but I am going to make a replica. The look is a short black wig, brassiere, a belt, a razor, boots and gloves. All of these will be ready next Friday." Indicated the designer.

Although the change of Thalia’s wax replica will be official, he does not know the date of the unveiling and if Thalia will be in Mexico, since nothing has been confirmed to him at the moment.

"I like the way this replica came out. It is an improvement and the truth is that Thalia is right, because she checks on her things and she likes them to be the way they ought to be. Besides, she is very well shaped, she does not have legs that thin nor thighs that heavy."

In Guadalajara, they are interested in making another wax figure of her, but the actress imposed a condition that the image must be as realistic as possible, so as to avoid the same as happened in Mexico City.

"The one they did of her in Mexico is very insipid, thus she promised them authority to make the replica and to attend the inauguration as long as it is well done. "

Quickly taking charge of the rumor mill that was running out of control since her male secretary blabbed to the media that she had a hot romance going with US actor Robert De Niro, Thalia's sister Laura Zapata has fired the trouble-maker and declines to make any further comment.

Apparently taking a lesson from Thalia about the futility of arguing with the media, Laura now refuses to discuss anything about the situation. Since she is presently working on a telenovela in Mexico City, it is unlikely that the paparazzi will discover her there with De Niro. But when she makes another of her frequent trips to Miami, no doubt people will be waiting to see if the two time Oscar winner shows up.

Here is a clip about it from El Gordo. Note that while trying to figure out how to pronounce De Niro's name they hit on "Robert Dinero" :D

After dancing cheek to cheek at Thalía and Tommy Mottola's wedding, Hollywood star Robert de Niro came away smitten with Laura Zapata and it seems that for a month now he has been chasing after her, stated the actress's assistant, Javier Garcia.

"Ms. Zapata formed a very good friendship with Robert De Niro. The bride and groom introduced them and the day of the wedding (in New York) they danced cheek to cheek," said Garcia.

He claimed that since this encounter, the actor's interest in the Mexican artist has grown to such a degree that he has called her on several occasions on her private telephone line. "I have answered three of four calls from Mr. Robert, here on Laura's cellular. Of course there is something between them because the gentleman is looking for her with considerable insistence," added Garcia.

The actress spent Christmas at the country home of Tommy and Thalía in New York, and it is presumed that on that occasion she also met with De Niro. "It appears that they definitely talked during Christmas…how much I don't know. Also he sent his private airplane so that Laura could travel to Miami and greet the new year there, certainly they dined together," he added.

At the beginning of last month De Niro and Zapata became "good friends" after having socialized during the wedding of Thalía and Tommy Mottola, celebrated in the Hotel Regent, located in the Wall Street area.

"I don't know if such a thing as a formal relationship exists between them, but that there was a strong attraction between them, there was," confirmed the assistant.

De Niro, winner of two Oscars for his participation in "The Godfather II" and "Raging Bull" has been married on two occasions. The first was with Diahne Abbot, whom he divorced in 1988, and afterwards he tied the knot with Grace Hightower, and they separated last year. At the moment it is not known if he is divorced, but in the People Magazine yearbook for 2001, they inform that De Niro is separated from his mate. His children are named Drena, Raphael, Aaron, Julian, and Elliot. Laura, on her part, has two sons and is divorced.

NOTE: Primer Impacto also did a feature on this supposed "relationship" and tried to make a big deal of it . They showed pictures of De Niro and Laura, but NOT TOGETHER. At the end of their feature they said that when they tried to contact Laura Zapata in Mexico City to confirm the story "she laughed out loud." So there you have it. Laura has a great sense of humor, and she does not mind stepping over the line when she feels like it. But she also has terrible luck with her staff, and it appears that she needs to have a strong talk with her assistant. While Laura was at the wedding in New York, her "driver" had a wild party at her house in Mexico and not only trashed the house but wrecked THREE of her vehicles. So maybe we should wait and see what Laura says about this situation before drawing any conclusions :D
